Chinese dragon (private commission)
A contractor from Westminister, Maryland, creates hand-turned bowls out of tree knots. His daughter loves Chinese dragons and he asked me to burn one for her birthday. Don drove it up to Gettysburg, and we met at a gas station off Route 15 where he handed me the piece. I asked, “What kind of dragon?” and he replied, “Surprise me.” After I was done, we met again – same place – and I handed it over. Don loved it and knew his daughter would be over the moon. After a minute or two he asked why did I pick this dragon? “I spent a lot of time looking and eventually picked one that most scared the heck out of me.”
